They were Creepy. They were Kooky. Spooky and Ooky. They were the epitome of the era for many 90s children, myself included. I can’t even begin to recount the amount of times I watched “The Addams Family” and it’s altogether Kookier sequel “Addams Family Values” on a quiet Saturday night as a child – tears of laughter and joy rolling down my chubby cheeks as I delighted in the eccentric family’s crazy antics.

Screen Shot 2013-10-07 at 17.36.40The two films spawned a typical 90s frenzy of merchandise. There were cereals, trading cards, board games, novelty flashlights, pinball machines and of course the “Thing in a Box” piggy bank which can now go for up to $75 on eBay. These films symbolised the 1990s for me, this was my childhood – I was obsessed with The Addams Family, so much so that when my VHS copy of the first film (which I can still remember my Grandma buying me from the supermarket) began to ware out – it was time for the necessary VHS to DVD upgrade.

However, there was a snag. Thanks to the production company behind the creation of the first film going bust, the distribution rights hadn’t allowed the film to be released on DVD in the UK. My only option was to purchase the USA release of the DVD.

Today however, 7th October 2013, marks the release of “The Addams Family” on DVD and Blu-Ray for the first time ever in the UK, thanks to MGM DVD purchasing the distribution rights.
